Royal Cosun announces 2004 sugar beet price

Royal Cosun, a manufacturer of ingredients for the food industry, has set the BMS price for the sugar beet supplied during the 2004 campaign at € 58.15 per tonne. The cooperative’s Board announced the price during the Members’ Council meeting in Nijkerk on 8 February.

The price of € 58.15 per tonne excluding VAT has been set for BMS beet with a sugar content of 16% and average extractability. The average sugar content in 2004 (16.20%) was lower than in the previous year (17.04%) but thanks to the high beet crop the average sugar yield per hectare was the same as in 2003 (10.9 tonnes per hectare). The financial yield per hectare for the average Cosun grower was about 6% higher.

The price for C beet with a sugar content of 16% and average extractability rose to € 5.16 (2003: € 4.64) on account of higher world market prices and despite the low dollar.

Cosun will publish its figures for the past financial year on 17 March.
