Aviko strengthens position in Swedish market

6 July 2006

Aviko, a member of Royal Cosun, recently acquired a 70% interest in Algen AB, Sweden. Algen AB holds 25% of the Swedish market for chilled potato products. The interest dovetails with Aviko’s strategy of achieving further growth in the European market for chilled potato products.
Algen AB consists of three production companies: 3N in Helsingborg, RK Skaleri in Uddevalla and Skalman in Harplinge. It also has a trading and a packaging company Farmaren in Laholm to supply potatoes to the retail and foodservice sectors.
The four companies, all located in the southwest of the country, have grown strongly in recent years and currently process more than 50,000 tonnes of potatoes a year. Aviko and Algen AB’s ranges are good matches for each other and by using Algen AB’s extensive distribution network, Aviko expects to increase its sales and considerably strengthen its position in the growing Scandinavian market for fresh potato specialities.
Algen AB’s management team will remain co-shareholders in the immediate years ahead and will help achieve further growth in cooperation with Aviko.
